How To Be An Ultrasound Technician
Becoming an ultrasound technician needs education and experience. Although there are currently no state licensing specifications, most institutions will want you to have minimum one certification before they will employ you in this job. Competition for jobs is quite hard so it pays to study hard and get the highest level of qualifications you can. You may opt to be a general ultrasound technician or one that specializes in a particular area such as pregnancy or cardiology for example.

As it seems there are certain requirements that have to be met prior to getting certified. You must have finished one year of clinical experience, but there is more that must be done first. Before you will be allowed to take the test for certification to become an ultrasound technician, you must complete either an associate degree course, or a bachelor's degree program.
Once the experience and academic requirement have been met, then there are no other roadblocks to being given the certification test. Upon passing the examination, you will be certified as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS).
Being a certified ultrasound technician you may assume to make anywhere from the low $40k area to a little over $60k. In addition to this certification, there are 3 other certifications possible with further education, although one is reserved for actual physicians. They include Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), and the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) certifications. When you have become certified you will be expected to maintain a particular level of continuing education to meet the criteria of the ARDMS.
As a certified ultrasound technician you can expect to make anywhere from the low $40k area to a little more than $60k. Your salary will rely on where you are located, what kind of work you are doing, your qualifications and your necessary experience.
